The Tibetan term "Lungta" which is literally rendered as “Wind Horse”, but actually means “great power,” refers to bringing power or positive energy that contributes to one’s personal success, prosperity, good luck, fame, charisma, fortune, long life, removing obstacles, cure illness, purification and every- thing that you desire and wish to fulfill. This special Tibetan Buddhist ritual method is done by reciting the Lungta prayers which consist of different prayers and mantras, often done with smoke offering ritual and hoisting prayer flags printed with various mantras and prayers on it.
In 2016, the Garden Abott, Namchag Khen Rinpoche Ngawang Gelek, worked very hard to build this structure so that people could hoist flags dedicated to themselves and others. Unfortunately, a recent windstorm destroyed our prayer flag mound.
Khen Rinpoche has now come up with a new project of creating a new prayer flag mound, with a better and taller central column (about 38 ft) than the earlier one with many surrounding poles so that people can hang the prayer flags vertically or horizontally.
People will be able to circumambulate, sit under the shade of prayer flags and meditate with the panoramic view of the Buddha garden.
Currently, Khen Rinpoche and his team are working on it and hopes to complete within 4 to 5 days. We will keep you updated as the project progresses by posting photos when the project is completed.
You may send your contributions if you wish to take part in this noble project. Especially, during this pandemic, if you can't come personally to hang the prayer flags, you can choose to purchase the flags online at ewam.org/donate from the Ewam store and ask to hang on behalf of you by writing your name on the flag and dedication prayers. Once the prayer flags get worn out after a couple of months, it will be replaced with a new one.
